Stones of Remembrance
God calls his people to remember his work among them. After 40 years of God’s provision through the wilderness and before they enter into battle to take the promised land, God calls his people to walk across the flooded Jordan River, an act that in and of itself reminds them of His mighty deliverance for them from Egypt. When He once again brings them through the water, He commanded them to take 12 stones from the river and set them up as a memorial to Yahweh our God, so that when their children asked, “What do these stones mean?” they could bear witness generation after generation to the mighty work God did among them. We acknowledge God’s provision over our church during a time of wilderness, praise him for his presence and healing, and raise stones of remembrance to bear witness to his mighty work among us.
